EXECUTIVE SUMMARY :
This study aims to investigate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGpt, Copilot, and Gemini by students at Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Bahasa Melayu (IPGKBM). Nowadays, artificial intelligence (AI) has become an essential part of daily life, including education, as we all know. The study focuses on the frequency of use, reasons, productivity gains, and concerns about reliance on AI in learning. The findings should provide insights into how students use AI as a learning tool, their perceptions of its usefulness, and their obstacles.
INTRODUCTION
In the rapidly developing digital era, artificial intelligence has become an important tool in many aspects of life including education. Stephen Hawking once said that success in creating AI would be the most significant event in human history (Ahmad et al., 2023). According to Nor Azaruddin Husni Hj. Nuruddin (2023), AI is the ability of machines to perform tasks and carry out activities that are usually done by humans. Nowadays, AI tools such as ChatGpt, Copilot, Gemini, etc have gained popularity among IPGKBM students for academic writing, research and idea generation. According to Ward (2024), around 86% of college students use AI in their studies. This study will investigate the frequency and purposes of AI tool usage, its benefits, and concern about dependency on AI among IPGKBM students.
METHODOLOGY
A quantitative method is used in this study. Data was collected through a Google Form survey that consisted five structured questions. The survey was distributed among IPGKBM students and it focusing on their usage patterns, purposes, and perceptions of AI tools. The data collected have been analyzed to identify the usage trends.
FINDINGS
Diagram 1.1
AI tools like ChatGpt, Copilot, Gemini, etc have been widely used for many purposes including education, and it's very famous among students. Based on the pie chart in diagram 1.1, 100% of respondents admit that they use AI tools for learning.
1. Usage patterns.
Diagram 1.2
Based on the pie chart in diagram 1.2, 64.3% of IPGKBM students use AI tools every day and 35.7% of them use it 3-4 times a week. It show that most students in IPGKBM often use AI in their daily life. It can be said that students are already accustomed to the use of AI. This is consistent with what Micah Ward (2024) stated, that around 86% of college students use AI in their studies.
2. Purposes of use.
Diagram 1.3
Based on statistics in diagram 1.3, students in IPGKBM use AI tools for various purposes. Around 85.7% of students use it for assisting with writing or research, 71.4% use it for finding ideas or inspiration, 64.3% use it for completing assignments or exercises and 35.7% use it for checking grammar and spelling. This shows that most IPGKBM students use AI to help them in writing or research and finding ideas. This is consistent with what Stephanne (2023) stated, that AI tools offer an efficient way to generate content.
3. Perceived benefits.
Diagram 1.4
Based on the pie chart in diagram 1.4, 100% agree that AI tools can help them improve their productivity. This shows that student can enhance their productivity a lot leading them to perform better in learning. This is consistent with what Li and Jan (2023) stated, that AI can foster a balanced and highly productive learning environment.
4. Concerns about dependency
Based on the pie chart in diagram 1.5, about 71.5% of students have concerns about relying too much on AI for learning, 21.4% of students are not sure and 7.1% are not worried at all. It shows that most students have concerns about AI and maybe it can lead them to be lazy to think. This is consistent with what Li and Jan (2023) stated, that if the dependency on AI increases, it will limit the human brain's thinking capacity.
DISCUSSION
Based on the study, it can be said that students in IPGKBM love to use AI tools because it will make it easier to complete their tasks and it's very flexible. However, the results also show that students might start relying too much on these tools which could affect their ability to think independently. In this case, it shows that AI tools are useful, but students should use them to support their learning, not to replace their own thinking and hard work. According to Paige Puntillo (2024), AI has the potential to revolutionize the way of learning and make education more efficient.
CONCLUSION
To sum up, AI tools have become integral to the IPGKBM students, increase productivity and creativity. However, students should know how to manage their dependence on AI to ensure that these tools remain supportive rather than substitutive.
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Conduct workshops on ethical AI usage for students to ensure that they can use AI tools properly.
2. Promote balanced learning by combining AI with traditional methods. It can make learning more interactive and can prevent students from relying too much on AI tools.

2. My experience using AI for Academic purposes :
My experience using Artificial Intelligence for academic purposes
Have you wondered why artificial intelligence is widely used among students lately? Artificial intelligence is everywhere nowadays, from smart assistants like Siri on the iPhone to tools like ChatGpt that help us a lot in completing a laborious task like writing, research, etc. According to Li and Jan (2023), AI has revolutionized students' learning experiences. According to Stephanne (2023), AI tools offer an efficient way to generate content that sounds natural and engaging. To be honest, AI tools like ChatGpt help me a lot to complete complicated assignments, especially in writing assignments. This is consistent with what Stephanne (2023) stated, that AI can help us to improve our writing skills. Therefore, it seems that AI has become an important thing in our lives.
First of all, I was amazed by AI tools like ChatGpt, Copilot, etc. that can simplify complex tasks. For instance, ChatGpt helps me with brainstorming ideas for lesson plans and breaking down complex academic topics. In addition, AI tools like QuilBot became lifesavers for me to check my grammar and generate citations in my writing task which can improve the flow of my writing. This is consistent with what Misha (2024) stated, that AI can play an important role that could be supporting the creative process from generating ideas to refining projects. Therefore, it's clear that AI can make complex things easier.
Even though AI helps me a lot in various things, it has several challenges that I should face. First things first, one of my challenges was understanding how to use AI effectively. For example, when I ask ChatGpt a question, it will give me an answer but, sometimes the answer given isn't accurate. This is consistent with what Paul (2023) stated, that GPT appears to be getting less accurate over time. Therefore, it's clear that AI tools still can give inaccurate information and users should check the information given before using it.
Apart from that, there are a few ways that I can overcome the challenges I face. First, I will double-check everything because whenever AI provides information, I will cross-reference it with trusted sources. It will prevent me from using inaccurate information. Not only that, I will make sure that I use AI as a helper, not a crutch. For example, I use it to organize ideas but still do the writing myself while completing the writing task.
To sum up, AI tools can help us in various things including education. However, users should use it in the right way and AI should enhance, not replace our skills so that it makes the usage of AI tools more efficient and creative. Stephen Hawking once said that success in creating AI would be the most significant event in human history (Ahmad et al., 2023).
